a forum for members of the legal profession to discuss matters of mutual concern
in an informal and friendly atmosphere. Representative from respectively the University
of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong are invited to participate as
the two universities are offering local courses leading to the qualification of
legal practitioners. |

provide a forum for the official members on the Committee to explain the Government's
position to the non-official members to facilitate deliberations. |

| 3. | To keep
track of the sentiments of the non-official members so that the Government can,
where appropriate, take these into account when formulating policy or implementing
Government programmes. |

To identify issues in relation to the provision of legal services that need to
be discussed. |

To facilitate early resolution of potential conflicts amongst the two branches
of the legal profession and any incongruity between those that provide the necessary
education and those that depend on the training of the entrants into the profession. |

assist with formulation of policies and practices that are more likely to be acceptable
to all parties. |
