by Law Officers Director of Public Prosecutions The
Statement of Prosecution Policy and Practice
was released on 31 October 2002. It represents a decisive shift towards openness
in the area of public prosecutions. The Statement has been revised substantially
since the issue of its predecessor in 1998, and the document has been modernised
and developed in the interests of transparency and accountability. Through The
Statement the parameters within which prosecutors operate are defined, and
the prosecution process is explained to the public. By applying the policy and
practices in The Statement, prosecutors will continue to advance the rule
of law and to contribute to the proper administration of criminal justice.
