Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme
Department of Justice

The Programme :

The Post-Secondary Student Summer Internship Programme is a civil service-wide programme arranged by the Civil Service Bureau.  The Department of Justice is one of the participating departments.

Eligibility :

Students meeting the following requirements may apply for the internship –

(a) are permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) are full-time students of second year or above in post-secondary institutions with academic background in law, or full-time students of post-graduate law degree programmes;
(c) have basic knowledge in computer applications and research skills on the Internet; and
(d) are fluent in both Cantonese and English.


Duties :

Summer interns would be required to perform the following duties, depending on the Division where he/she is attached to –

(a) to conduct general legal and law-related research and compile research materials;
(b) to assist in drafting and vetting of documents;
(c) to assist Counsel in preparation of cases and to assist Counsel in court; and
(d) to assist in updating legal database and reference.

Employment Period :

June to August each year (one to two months)

Allowance :

A monthly allowance would be offered to summer interns.  In 2009, the monthly allowance was $5,600.

Recruitment :

Recruitment notice would be posted on the department’s website at http://www.doj.gov.hk and the website of the Civil Service Bureau at http://www.csb.gov.hk in around April/May each year.

(a) Students studying in local post-secondary institutions should approach the Student Affairs Offices/Career Centres of their respective institutions for application.
   
(b) For overseas students who meet the entry requirements listed above, they should download application forms on the website of the Department of Justice (http://www.doj.gov.hk).  Completed application form with copies of certificates and academic transcripts should be posted to the Department of Justice via their respective institutions.
