New Application Schedule in 2010 for
Legal Trainee Scheme for 2011 intake, Department of Justice

This is to announce that a new application schedule will be in place in 2010 for applicants of the Legal Trainee Scheme of the Department of Justice for the 2011 intake.

The Department of Justice operates a Legal Trainee Scheme which aims to provide legal trainees with practical training in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society of Hong Kong or the Hong Kong Bar Association and at the same time enable them to acquire experience in various types of legal work undertaken by Government lawyers. Postgraduate Certificate in Laws (PCLL) students of the local universities will be eligible for consideration under the Scheme.

Under our usual practice, our Department holds the career talks on the Legal Trainee Scheme in local universities and issues related recruitment advertisements in local newspapers in September/October every year. Starting from the recruitment exercise for the 2011 intake, some changes will be made to the application schedule and recruitment arrangements.  Under the revised schedule, the dates of career talks and publication of the recruitment advertisements for the Legal Trainee recruitment exercise for the 2011 intake will be advanced to March/April 2010 and candidates, including final year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) students (both Hong Kong and overseas) who intend to study PCLL in Hong Kong in 2010, will be invited to apply for the Scheme from March/April to June 2010.  The applicants, who cannot provide their LLB/Juris Doctor/Common Professional Examination results and PCLL admission confirmation by local universities when submitting their applications, will be requested to provide such documents by August 2010 at the latest.

Students who would like to be considered for the 2011 Legal Trainee intake and make an application under our Legal Trainee Scheme in 2010 are reminded to watch out for the recruitment advertisements that will be posted at the website of the Department of Justice at http://www.doj.gov.hk from April to June 2010 and be placed in Ming Pao and South China Morning Post in April 2010.
