Secretary for Justice to visit Beijing and Shanghai

The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, will visit Beijing and Shanghai from August 17 to 22 to promote Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services, and to enhance exchanges with the legal sectors of the two areas.

Mr Yuen will attend the "Seminar on the Legal and Dispute Resolution Services in Hong Kong" in Beijing and Shanghai on August 19 and 20 respectively, and deliver speeches to introduce Hong Kong's arbitration and mediation services to the business and legal sectors.

Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai and the Beijing Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government with relevant Mainland organisations, the two seminars aim to help Mainland enterprises further understand Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services, as well as the business environment in Hong Kong.

Mr Yuen will attend the opening ceremony of a Mainland summer internship programme for Hong Kong law students on August 17 in Beijing, and will attend the graduation ceremony of a Mainland summer internship programme for Hong Kong law students organised by the Legal Education Fund Limited in Shanghai on August 21.

During his visits to Beijing and Shanghai, Mr Yuen will meet with officials of the Ministry of Justice, the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Shanghai Bureau of Justice, as well as relevant arbitration and mediation organisations, to enhance mutual co-operation and exchanges.

Mr Yuen will return to Hong Kong on August 22.
