Secretary for Justice meets with Indonesian legal and law officials (with photos)

The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, joined by some members of the Hong Kong delegation of legal and arbitration professionals, met with the Indonesian Attorney General, Mr H M Prasetyo, and the Minister of Law and Human Rights, Mr Yasonna Laoly, in Jakarta, Indonesia, today (September 18) to enhance legal exchanges and co-operation between the two places.

Mr Yuen briefed Mr Prasetyo on the successful implementation of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong, highlighting that the rule of law and judicial independence are fully guaranteed by the Basic Law.

Both sides agreed to further enhance legal exchanges and co-operation between the two places, in particular on matters relating to mutual legal assistance.

In the meeting with Mr Laoly, Mr Yuen and the delegation members introduced Hong Kong's legal and dispute resolution services to the minister, in particular the services provided by various Hong Kong and international arbitration institutions.

Mr Yuen said Hong Kong has been very keen to explore legal co-operation between Hong Kong and Indonesia, which is a very close trading partner of Hong Kong. He and Mr Laoly agreed to foster closer ties between the legal and arbitration sectors of the two places and build up further dialogues.
