Conclusion

  1. The Department is committed to improving the way domestic violence cases are dealt with in the criminal justice system. Victims and witnesses must have confidence in the way in which their cases are conducted. The function of the prosecutor is to help to develop best practice in the handling of victims, to make the right decisions on cases and to prosecute effectively. Decisions should be based on the fullest evidence and background information. Through the pursuit of viable prosecutions those responsible for domestic violence should be brought to account.
