Russell Coleman SC was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple in 1986. After three years practice in London, he moved to live and work in Hong Kong in 1990, and was admitted to full practice at the Hong Kong Bar in 1991.

He practised from one set of chambers until 1999, when he moved to his current chambers, Temple Chambers. He has enjoyed a broad practice in civil and commercial law, including in the areas of admiralty law, commercial contracts, professional negligence, employment, constitutional and administrative law, and ‘big money’ divorce. He took ‘Silk’ in 2006.

He is a Chartered Arbitrator. He has published various articles, and edited texts, mostly in the field of arbitration. He is frequently appointed as arbitrator, in both domestic and international arbitrations. He was President of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators 2008-2009. He sat for two 3-year terms as a Member of the Inland Revenue Board of Review.

In January 2009 he became the Chairman of the Bar Council of the Hong Kong Bar Association, and he is also Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar’s Special Committee on Advocacy Training. He is a Council Member of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).
