Andrew Mak was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn in 1987. He was admitted to full practice at the Hong Kong Bar in 1989, and also the Australian and the Singapore Bar.

He currently practises from Sir Oswald Cheung QC’s Chambers. He has enjoyed a broad practice in civil and commercial law, including in the areas of property law, commercial contracts, international trade disputes, professional disciplinary proceedings, and constitutional and administrative law.

He has lectured at the Peking University LLM (Policy and Law) program and was a visiting scholar at the Harvard University (in 2000).

He is an accredited Mediator and also practises in arbitration.

He has been sitting as temporary Master of the High Court. He has also been sitting as Chairman and Deputy Chairman on various appeal tribunals, including Chairman of Building Appeals Tribunal and Deputy Chairman of Administrative Appeals Board.

Currently he is Chairman of the Licensing Appeals Board and the Disciplinary Appeals Committee of the Confederation of Insurance Brokers.

Since 2006 he has been the Chairman of the Special Committee on Mainland Affairs of the Bar Council of the Hong Kong Bar Association, and he is also Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar’s Special Committee on Planning and Policy. He is a director of the Coalition of Professional Services of Hong Kong.

He sat for 6 years with the Insurance Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Government. Currently he is a Council member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council.

Mr Mak was appointed Justice of Peace in 2012.
