Welcome Message

The Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region welcomes you to the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum which will be held in Guangzhou, Guangdong on 13 September 2012.

We organised the first Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in July 2010 in Shanghai together with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, and the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration (Asia Office). The Forum was well attended by over 500 participants from across the business and legal sectors in the Changjiang Delta Region.

The successful conclusion of the first Forum has demonstrated the value of such fora in promoting the legal and arbitration services of Hong Kong to Mainland businesses and other users. We and the above co-organisers have decided to host the second HK Legal Services Forum in Guangzhou, our close neighbour and a vibrant economic city.

The theme of the second Forum is “Hong Kong Legal Services – Think Global, Think Hong Kong”. The Forum aims to highlight Hong Kong’s strength as the international hub for legal services and dispute resolution. As Mainland enterprises continue to grow bigger, “Going-out” has become the trend. Experienced Hong Kong legal professionals and arbitrators will explore related legal issues including corporate finance and governance as well as the advantages of using arbitration services in Hong Kong in resolving commercial disputes. The Forum will consist of presentations and panel discussions by esteemed speakers. Two breakout sessions will be concurrently held in the afternoon covering (a) a mock arbitration to demonstrate how a cross-boundary commercial dispute can effectively be resolved by arbitration and (b) a case study on legal issues relating to mergers and acquisitions.
