Welcome Message
from the Department of Justice

The Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region welcomes you to the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum to be held in Nanjing, Jiangsu on 15 November 2016.

We held the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao in July 2010, September 2012 and September 2014 respectively. Each of the two recent forums was well attended by about 700 to 800 participants from across the business and legal sectors in the nearby regions.

The successful conclusion of the three forums has demonstrated the value of such forums in promoting the legal and dispute resolution services of Hong Kong to Mainland businesses and other users. This year, we have decided to host the fourth Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in Nanjing together with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Asia Office of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center.

Featuring the theme of “Jiangsu • Hong Kong - Together we seize global business opportunities”, the fourth Forum will highlight Hong Kong’s position as a leading centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the international legal and dispute resolution services that can be provided by Hong Kong in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Forum will bring together experienced Hong Kong legal and dispute resolution services professionals including practising barristers, solicitors and arbitrators with abundant international exposure to explore various practical legal issues.

The topics include issues on legal risk management and intellectual property issues that may be encountered by Mainland enterprises when they invest overseas, the advantages of using Hong Kong’s international arbitration and mediation services in resolving commercial disputes as well as investment risk management issues under the Belt and Road Initiative. The Forum will consist of presentations and panel discussions by eminent speakers. Two breakout sessions will be held concurrently in the afternoon covering (a) a mock arbitration to demonstrate how to resolve disputes effectively through arbitration, which will be followed by a detailed discussion on the practical aspects of arbitration and mediation; and (b) investment risk management under the Belt and Road Initiative, including the effective means to resolve commercial disputes between Mainland enterprises and overseas investors and investment disputes between Mainland investors and host countries.
