On 11-14 November 2020, the International Chamber of Commerce - Hong Kong and the Department of Justice co-organised the 2019-2020 ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition - Hong Kong (the Competition). Given the pandemic restrictions, the Competition was held virtually. 20 student teams from 20 universities, spanning across 16 time zones competed against each other. After a total of 37 matches that took place within 60 hours, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities from Poland won, and they further competed at the 16th ICC Mediation Competition in early February 2021 which was also held virtually. The Competition aims at offering an opportunity for university students from different jurisdictions to learn and put to use mediation advocacy skills in simulated mediation for commercial disputes, and by so doing, gained a better understanding of the mediation process as a whole.
