Details of the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum 2016

Theme:

The Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held the Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Qingdao in 2010, 2012 and 2014 respectively to promote Hong Kong’s international legal and dispute resolution services to the Mainland enterprises and other users. Building on the success of the past three forums, the Department of Justice joins hands with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Bar Association, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the Asia Office of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center and the China Maritime Arbitration Commission Hong Kong Arbitration Center to hold the fourth Hong Kong Legal Services Forum in Nanjing on 15 November 2016.

Featuring the theme “Jiangsu • Hong Kong - Together we seize global business opportunities”, the fourth Forum will highlight Hong Kong’s position as a leading centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region as well as the international legal and dispute resolution services that can be provided by Hong Kong in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.

With its strong legal infrastructure and world-class legal professionals, Hong Kong is well-placed to provide a wide range of professional services there are in line with prevailing international practices. The Forum will bring together experienced Hong Kong practising barristers, solicitors and arbitrators with abundant international exposure to explore various practical legal issues including legal risk management and intellectual property issues facing Mainland enterprises when they invest overseas. A mock arbitration will also be staged to demonstrate dispute resolution by way of arbitration. Speakers of the Forum will also discuss the aspect of investment risk management under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Objective:

To highlight Hong Kong’s position as a leading centre for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the international legal and dispute resolution services that can be provided by Hong Kong in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative.
